To keep pace with the evolving technological, managerial and regulatory requirements of the industry, new course curriculum for the Extra First Class Engineer has been formulated by a committee of experts. Accordingly, "Extra First Class Engineer" Certificate of Competency is extended to a candidates aspiring for higher professional assignments in maritime field.

Course is being conducted in CORRESPONDENCE MODE (DISTANCE LEARNING) and assessment of the subject is based on combination mode of assignment and Final examination by DGS. Assignments are so designated that the analytic ability of the candidate is explored and evaluated, and the assignments in each subject will help in assessing the knowledge, comprehension, application and analytical capabilities of the candidates for different modules.

Additionally, we conduct contact (Virtual) classes at periodical intervals, but the same is not made mandatory for the candidates.

Course Duration : 1 year (2 semesters) and should be completed not exceeding maximum 5 years from the date of first enrollment for the course failing which, candidate needs to undergo the complete course and examination all over again.

Successful completion period of the course of The Examination for all subjects will be conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, twice in a year during June / December every year for the applications enrolled prior 31st May and 30th November respectively.

Please find appended herewith the Course Curriculum which covers 12 subjects divided equally in Part A and Part B:
 
Candidate can select any five subject out of the six from each Part and therefore shall satisfactorily complete the course and assessment of a total of ten subjects to consider for the award of the Extra First Class COC.

D. G. Shipping mandates a minimum batch strength of 25%. In the event that the number of participants in the course reduces due to withdrawals, causing the batch strength to fall below 25% of the batch capacity, the course would be postponed without any additional charges.
