LOSS OF OUTBOARD MOTOR DUE TO RESCUE BOAT FALLING INTO THE WATER WHILE LOWERING

Name: Mr Wenceslaus Joseph, 2/E

During the Saturday routine, Master wanted to lower the rescue boat from the upper deck level and accordingly he passed the orders. He was advised by the fellow officers to lower it to the upper deck level (embarkation deck) and then to lower the boat. But Master refused to heed to, and ordered C/O to lower the boat . C/O obeyed and without taking precautions, he released the lifting wire, and the boat fell into the water from the upper deck level damaging the boat heavily. The outboard motor also fell into the water. The boat was recovered with the help of the provision crane.
